My Exact Plan For My Biology Students Over Easter 🐣

Easter is one of the most important windows in the entire exam season.

Ā

Not because students suddenly need to do more…

…but because they finally have the time to fix what isn’t working.

Ā

So I wanted to share the exact plan I’ll be using with my students inside the Easter Intensive Biology Revision Course — because whether they join me or not, this is the approach that works.

Step 1: Go through the content and match up the exam questions

Before anything else, we revisit key areas of the course and I show students how that tpoic shows up in exam questions.

Ā

This is important.

Ā

Because it’s not just about understanding the content — it’s about seeing how that content is actually tested.

Ā

From there, we analyse performance and start to see clearly:

  • Where marks are being lost

  • Which topics aren’t fully understood

  • Where answers are missing key words

Ā

Step 2: Identify the gaps (properly)

Now that we’ve connected content to exam questions, we can pinpoint the exact knowledge gaps.

Ā

Not guessing. Not avoiding topics.

Ā

But clearly identifying the specific areas that need work.

Because if students don’t know what the gaps are, they can’t fix them.

Ā

Step 3: Fix understanding using active revision

This is where most students go wrong.

Ā

Inside the course, we don’t reread notes or rewrite summaries.

Ā

We use active revision methods that force students to think, retrieve, and apply knowledge so it actually sticks.

Ā

Students will be asked to do a learning style quiz at the beginning to identify their learning style, and given options for active revision that they can use that will complement their learning style.

Ā

Step 4: Learn the marking scheme and key words

This is one of the biggest differences I see in students who improve quickly. Biology exams follow patterns. There are specific ways answers need to be written to pick up marks.

Ā

So in our classes we also focus on helping students recognise those patterns and understand exactly what the examiner is looking for.

Ā

Step 5: Practise — but in the right way

Past papers are powerful… but only when used correctly.

Ā

As part of homework, students will get revision worksheets which consist of fill-in-the-gap notes and siphoned out past papers for the subunit and can complete these for their homework

• test their understanding

• expose weak areas

• refine how they answer questions

Ā

Not just complete entire papers — but learn from them properly. That’s the process.

Ā

They'll also get multiple choice quizzes everyday which will support their revision for Section 1 paper.

Ā

Step 6: Don't forget scientific literacy, maths, graph interpretation and exam technique.

Ā

One of our sessions is dedicated specifically to scientific literacy and data-based questions.

Ā

These often make up around 30–40% of the exam — yet many students are never explicitly taught how to approach them.

Ā

The key thing students learn is this: These questions are not random, they follow clear, repeatable patterns.

Ā

When students understand how to:

• read and interpret data efficiently

• recognise common question styles

• apply the correct structure in their answers

Ā

They can approach these questions with far more confidence — and in many cases, secure marks much more consistently.

Ā

And if a student focuses on these 6 steps over Easter, the final weeks before the Biology exam become far more focused, far less stressful, and much more effective.

Ā

If your teen would benefit from being guided through this step-by-step, with structure and support…

Ā

That’s exactly what we’ll be doing inside the Easter Intensive Biology Revision Course. We start in 1 week - and there is still time to sign up.
