Brodie Mackie
I am a biology tutor, study skills educator with a strong interest in marine biology. I have an extensive background in marine ecology having completed my Masters of Research at the University of Glasgow with Distinction in 2023. I have been tutoring successfully for over 4 years and have taken on dozens of students in this time, helping them build their confidence and improve their grades with our one-to-one sessions.
Over the years I have noticed a trend in which students are not taught how to study. Achieving goals and improving grades has much more to do with effective study methods to fit a students learning style, time management, a proper work/life balance, self-awareness and psychology, than students really understand. I am passionate in teaching students how to efficiently study to make the process of achieving academic goals manageable, fulfilling and rewarding.

MRes Ecology and Environmental Biology (1st Class)
University Of Glasgow
Completed 9 month project in Mozambique on fish specie abundance and biomass using video footage. Gained experience in research diving, survey techniques (photo ID, acoustics, fish ID, megafaunal species and gender ID, microplastics, plankton surveys etc). Assisted in managing and overseeing volunteer activities such as Ocean Safaris, humpback whale surveys and giving presentations. Whilst not in the field I completed courses in R, scientific communication, grant proposal writing, advanced statistics, human dimensions, spatial ecology.

BSc Animal Biology (2.1)
University of Stirling
Completed courses in biology, ecology, conservation, environmental management and courses in lab and field skills, R and GIS, research and study design. My undergraduate dissertation used camera trap data, RSI data, GIS and literature to complete an IUCN ecosystem assessment on the forest ecosystems found in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zones, Ukraine.
